Federal Kumano (Detroit Fireworks)
For the 2012 Detroit Fireworks, some photographer buddies and myself setup camp at an abandon warehouse on the West Side of the Ambassador bridge. For awhile, we became convinced that the local authorities had, in turn, setup camp outside the exit as to ticket us (or worse) on our way out. (Every Detroit photographer has a story about being hassled by the Police or Border Patrol because we share an international border with Canada, our allies of over 100 years). Either we were paranoid, or they got bored but tensions were high for a few hours. None-the-less the roof provided just enough elevation to prevent the bridge from blocking the bursts, and an excellent vista for capturing the city's skyline along with the action. I struggled awhile with whether or not to include the freighter in the foreground but eventually settled on this angle...
