A rock on the western most point of Belle Isle provides sturdy foundation for a small ecosystem overlooking a fog embraced Detroit Skyline. What happens where sky water and city converge into grey? Do the two halves become one, or remain perpetually separated? Ask any Detroiter and you will learn that the answer is, like their adjoining medium in the photo, neither black nor white. On the left, to the south, the city of Windsor stands as the United States' southern most gateway to Canada, their lifetime neighbor and ally of 200 years. Having mixed blood, sand and salt water on the beaches of Northern France during the D-Day invasion, shared final gasps for air amongst the mustard gas smothered trenches of World War I, our two countries, these two cities, remain perpetually separated by imaginary lines enforced by authorities claiming to fight enemies that can only exist in abstract. We, as fellow Detroiters and Windsorites can only hope for a lush future as an international metropolis exists beyond the fog of this fear induced moment.
